Fictional

Fictional moving image. The Dark Knight opening scene
This scene's target audience is most likely young adult males as due to the large amount of violence and action this demographic would be most likely to enjoy this scene. Also all of the characters focused on are males, once again showing that it is tailored to a male audience. This shares themes with other action movies, for example the opening of the movie being full of excitement and throwing the audience straight into the action. By making the first scene of the movie full of action packed it both excites the audience for what is to come and sets the tone for the rest of the movie. In this scene the do not show any main stars face's for the majority of it and only show Heath Ledger (the Joker) at the end. The masks that are used to hide the faces of the criminals also hide the identity of the criminals, this draws viewers in and makes them want to keep watching so they can find out if famous actors are in the scene. The message that the scene sends is that the Joker is extremely dangerous and evil. This message is shown by how ruthless he is, ordering his henchmen to kill each other  throughout the heist and the at the end murdering the bank manager in a extremely brutal way. This shows the audience that the Joker is the main villain of the movie while also making the audience fear the Joker and what he will do if he can pull off a bank heist this well. The story of this scene is resolved during the scene as by the end the heist is over and the Joker escapes but it sets up the plot for the rest of the movie. By having the main villain win in the first scene it carries on the theme of showing how dangerous the Joker is so even though the bank robbery is completed by the end of the scene it sets up the rest of the movie. Throughout the scene a constant theme of betrayal is present because as soon as one of the criminals jobs is done the are killed by another criminal. This theme of betrayal shows how unpredictable the Joker is in the rest of the movie. Adding to this it shows how the city is corrupted by crime as even the bank that was seemingly normal before the heist is actually a mob bank. Due to this the viewers begin to wonder just how terrible this city is and if Batman can actually fix it.
